Stairlift Assessment
Answer a few questions about the staircase and the rider and see the stairlift we would recommend, with its price, installation included.
What Matters About Straight Stairlifts
The four things that actually decide this, rather than the four things easiest to write.
Rail cut from stock
A straight rail is cut to your measurement from standard stock rather than manufactured to a curve. That is the whole reason it costs less and arrives sooner.
Two to four hours
One visit, start to finish. No construction, no permit in most residential cases, no waiting on a factory.
Fixed to the treads
The rail sits on feet fixed into the stair treads. The wall is untouched, and the lift comes off cleanly if it is ever removed.
Capacity decides the model
Between 300 lb and 600 lb depending on which one you fit. That is the number to get right, and it is the first thing we ask about.
Models For Straight Stairlifts
Point at one to see what it carries and what it is for.
Bruno · Straight stairlift
Bruno Elan SRE-5000
The straight stairlift most people end up with.
- Model SRE-5000, the new generation replacing the SRE-3050
- Lift capacity 300 lb (136 kg)
- Controls Constant pressure armrest control, plus two wireless remotes
- Rail Vertical rail with covered gear rack, mounted to the treads rather than the wall
Bruno · Straight stairlift
Bruno Elite SRE-2010
When the straight lift has to carry more.
- Model SRE-2010
- Lift capacity 400 lb (181 kg)
- Recommended for Users Bruno specifically does not recommend the Elan for: anyone using a scoot-pivot transfer without weight bearing through the legs, or whose knees buckle during a stand-to-sit transfer
- Power Continuously charging batteries, runs through an outage
Harmar · Straight stairlift
Harmar Pinnacle SL300
The narrowest way up a tight staircase.
- Lift capacity 300 lb (136 kg)
- Seat Compact seat, the smallest of the three Pinnacle sizes
- Drive Helical worm gear with a nylon polymer gear rack, needing no grease or lubrication
- Folded width Around 10.5 to 11 inches of stairwell
Harmar · Straight stairlift
Harmar Pinnacle SL600
More capacity, same narrow footprint.
- Lift capacity 350 lb (159 kg)
- Seat Padded, full-size backrest, between the SL300 and the SL600HD
- Drive Helical worm gear, no grease or lubrication
- Folded width Around 10.5 to 11 inches of stairwell
Harmar · Heavy duty straight stairlift
Harmar Pinnacle SL600HD
For when capacity is the whole question.
- Lift capacity 600 lb (272 kg)
- Seat High-backed extra-wide chair, stationary armrests, reinforced footrest
- Drive Helical worm gear with nylon polymer rack, no grease
- Battery cycles Up to 60 up-and-down cycles on batteries during a power outage
What Actually Stops People
These are the three things we hear most. None of them is unreasonable.
Questions People Ask
How do I know my staircase is straight?
If you can see the top from the bottom and there is no turn, landing, or bend anywhere on the flight, it is straight. If there is a single step that turns, it is curved as far as the rail is concerned, and priced that way.
How much less than a curved lift?
Substantially, because the rail is not manufactured to your staircase. We will give you the actual number at the survey rather than a range that turns out to be wrong.
Which model should I get?
Capacity and transfer decide it. The Elan and the SL300 carry 300 lb. The Elite carries 400 lb and is what Bruno names for difficult transfers. The SL600HD carries 600 lb.
Will it fit my narrow staircase?
Usually. The Harmar Pinnacle takes around 10.5 to 11 inches when folded, which is why we specify it where clearance is the problem. We measure at survey and tell you what is left.
Can it be fitted on either side?
Generally yes, and which side is a real decision. It depends on the handrail, the doorways at each end, and which way the person transfers.
Do you have one in stock?
Straight lifts we hold. That is why the timeline is hours rather than weeks. Ask what is on the van this week.
What happens in a power cut?
Batteries charge along the rail and run the lift through an outage, with a manual lowering method as well.
The Credentials Behind The Work
Anybody can sell equipment. Installing it legally, configuring it clinically, and servicing it afterward takes credentials that have to be earned and kept current. Here is what our team holds.
State Elevator Mechanic Licenses
Licensed elevator mechanics, state by state. Residential elevators and platform lifts are regulated work in most jurisdictions, and this is the license that makes it legal to do.
ATP, Assistive Technology Professional
RESNA-recognized credential for evaluating a person's needs and specifying the assistive technology that fits. This is who you want configuring a power chair or a seating system.
CRTS, Complex Rehab Technology Supplier
The credential for supplying individually configured complex rehab. It is what separates a supplier who works alongside your clinical team from one who ships a box.
CAPS, Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist
Training in modifying a home so someone can stay in it. It is the difference between installing equipment and understanding the house it goes into.
Mobility Service Excellence
Industry service certification covering installation, maintenance, and repair standards across mobility equipment.
EPA Section 609
Federal certification for handling refrigerant in vehicle air conditioning. It is required to legally service a bus AC system, and it is why fleet work is something we can actually take on.
